Harold Gene Mabis, 86

December 30, 1930 to July 30, 2017

Harold Gene “Corky” Mabis, 86, of rural Granville died on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at St. Margaret’s Hospital, Spring Valley.

Corky was born on December 30, 1930 in Mansfield, Ill. to George and Luera (Schmall) Mabis. He married Beth Carr on April 8, 1956.

He attended Mansfield School System and served in the United States Army in the Medical Core from 1948 to 1952 and was stationed in Germany for 39 months.

Corky was a self employed contractor. He also ran McNabb Lumber for many years.

He was a member of Granville American Legion Post #180 and a past member of the McNabb American Legion. Corky was on the McNabb Fire Department for many years, he was also a member of Fish – N – Fun for many years. He helped develop the site for Edgewood Golf Course and planted many of the trees on the golf course and served on the board of directors. He had a passion for playing golf and fishing.

Survivors include his wife Beth Mabis of Granville; one son, Kent Mabis of Granville; six grandchildren, Paige whom they helped raise, Paul, Colin, Kemberli, Colton and Michael; seven great-grandchildren, Jordan, Josilynn, Dakota, Oliver, Elijah, Breyson and Parker; one sister, Gladys Scott of LeRoy and one sister – in – law, Arlene Mabis of Pontiac.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Kelly Mabis, six brothers, 2 sisters and one grandson, Cameron.

Service/Memorial Information

Service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Dysart – Cofoid Funeral Chapel, Granville. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Dysart – Cofoid Funeral Chapel, Granville.
