Donald Stone "Stoney" Obituary

Donald R. Stone “Stoney” 82 years old of Bradford, IL passed away on June 15, 2019 at Royal Oaks Healthcare in Kewanee, IL.

He was born on June 10, 1937 to Francis and Kathryn (Lawson) Stone.  He married Linda Jarrard on December 31, 1987.  She passed away on April 22, 2019.  He was married to his first wife, Roberta Stead on December 24, 1954; she still survives in Diamond, Missouri.

Don is survived by Marilyn (Tom) Wilson of Bradford, Robert (Francie) Stone of Missouri, Beth (Brent) Skinner of Missouri, step-son Todd Anderson of Indiana, step-daughter Laura Todaro of NH, sister-in-law Lynda Stone of Princeville, IL.  Also surviving are four grandchildren, Mark Wilson, Adam (Linda) Wilson, Cameron (Presley) Skinner and Mary (Rob) Wood and four great-grandchildren, Charlie, Nyia, Marcus and Devon.  He will be missed by his cat, Meow Meow.  His many cousins and wonderful friends, he was never shy of starting a long conversation or lending a helping hand.

Don was preceded in death by his younger brother Richard Stone and his sister Mary Linda who died at 6 months old, one son Terry D. Stone and step-daughter Dina Macumber.

He was active in his younger years in the Milo 4-H Club raising his prize steers.  Don attended Bradford High School for a few years and during that time he enjoyed playing football.  When his school years ended Don starting his farm career and with his best friend, Bill Rouse they started R & S Trucking business thus he became one of the best diesel transmission mechanic’s in the Tri-County Area, he worked in Princeville and Chillicothe for many years.  Don decided after many years of being a mechanic for someone else he and his wife (Linda) wanted to start Stoney’s Diesel Shop on his farm.  After long hours of work and success they created the Stoney’s Horse Stables where he built his own practice track.  At early retirement he and Linda attended many auctions and helped in starting several antique shops.

Don loved the farm so, so many visions he would start and keep working on for years and his creek at the back of the farm being his last.  He was born on the farm, married, raised his family and made a great living there.  Customers, friends and family would stop by and Don would just put the tools down and go to the house for a cup of coffee and visit.

A private family memorial service will be held on the farm.  Interment will be at Bradford Cemetery in Bradford on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.
