Nelda Lorene Naumann, 89, of Peru, formerly of Granville, died Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Manor Court, Peru. Nelda was born on August 1, 1922 at home in Livingston County, near Flanagan, Illinois to Harm and Lelah Florence (George) Schlueter. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Flanagan. She attended Athena Elementary County School and graduated in 1939 from Long Point High School. She was the first child to complete high school in her family. At a Luther League Convention she met the love of her life, Raymond Naumann, and they were married on April 16, 1941 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Flanagan. They were blessed with 69 years of married life together. They lived on the Naumann family farm, one mile south of Standard until 2008 when they moved into Liberty Village, Peru. She was a true help mate on the farm, helping with the animals, gardening, canning, making delicious angel food cake, Christmas cookies and candies and strawberry jam. She also helped with the field work, except plowing as Ray thought that it was too hard. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends, playing cards, ballroom and square dancing and collecting various things such as state plates, dolls, beanie babies, pens and pencils and glassware. She loved music and to sing with her children. She had great faith in her Lord and expressed that in her own rendition of the 23rd psalm that was published in the News Tribune. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Peru, teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, sang in the choir, served on Church Council and was a member of the Ladies Aid. She is survived by two daughters, Nola (Rev. John R.) Smith of Cyrus, MN and Rhonda (Ron) Stover of Roanoke, AL; one son, Randi (Tina) Naumann of Oglesby, IL and eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Wilda Crow and Beata Aupperle and one brother, Myrl Schlueter and many nieces and nephews.
