Betty J. Clinton, 89, of rural McNabb passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025 at her home with her loving husband by her side.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Nativity Of Our Lord Parish, 510 Richard A Mautino Dr. Spring Valley, IL.
Mass of Christian Burial to follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Rev. Scott Potthoff will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service. Burial will be at a later date in Friends Cemetery, McNabb.
Dysart – Cofoid Funeral Chapel will be assisting the family with the arrangements.
Betty was born on October 1, 1936 in Standard to Adolph and Eaula (Lonie) Kuhne. She married Douglas Clinton on July 24, 1971.
Betty graduated from Magnolia Swaney High School in the class of 1954. She took various classes at IVCC, Joliet Junior College and Morris College in Peoria. She also went to the LaSalle County Dental Assistant School from 1956 – 1957.
She worked at Illinois Bell Telephone Company in LaSalle & Joliet for 18 years and Cilco Ameren in Lacon & Peoria for 26, years. She also served as Parish council at St. Mary’s Church as lector & Eurcharistic Minister, St. Margaret’s Hospital Pastoral Care, Cursillo (Illinois Valley), Teens Encounter Christ and Prison Ministry at Sheridan Prison for a total of 27 years.
Betty received the Marquette award from the Peoria Catholic Diocese.
Survivors include her husband Douglas of McNabb; one son, Jerry (Kathy) Mekley of Hennepin; one daughter, Sherri Chasteen of Creve Coeur; two grandsons, Michael Mekley and Jerad (Brittney) Mekley; four great-grandchildren, Milly, Madalyn, Molly & Mae Mekley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Chris Kavanagh, son-in-law Mike Chasteen and brother, Bill Kuhne.
Pallbearers will be John Redshaw, Michael Mekley, John Wrobel, Dr. Mike Morrow and Dr. Bob Morrow.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Cursillo or Teens Encounter Christ.
