Donald E. Schierer 91, of Decatur, IL passed away at 5:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2022, in Moweaqua Rehabilitation and Health Care Home.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 8, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Granville with military honors. Fr. Patrick DeMeulemeester will officiate. The family suggests memorials be made to the donor's choice. Dysart – Cofoid Funeral Chapel is entrusted with the local arrangements.
Donald was born November 21, 1930 in Metamora, IL the son of Isadore and Josephine (Kirchgessner) Schierer. He married Shirley Janusick on July 21, 1977, in Granville, IL. Don had served in the US Army and was a Korean War veteran. He had retired as a truck driver. Don was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He enjoyed many hobbies including woodworking, fishing, and hunting. Spending time with family was important to him and he loved his family deeply. Don could often be described as being a little ornery and sometimes silly. He and his wife also enjoyed being winter Texans, traveling, and just being outdoors.
Surviving is his wife: Shirley of Decatur, children: Shirley Maubach (John) of Henry, IL, Teresa Eiten (Tom) of Wellsburg, IA, Donald Schierer, Michael W. Schierer (Misty) of Buffalo City, WI, Carol Janusick (Jill) of Decatur, and Cheryl Marshall (Michael) of Beulah, ND; brothers: Herman Schierer of Peoria, IL, Wilber Schierer (Sandy) of Lacon, IL and Russell Schierer (Penny) of Toulon, IL; sisters: Clara Grebner of Washburn, IL and Darlene Atkins of Lacon, IL; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister, son: Gregory Janusick and his grandson: Michael P. Schierer.
