Elizabeth E. Immel, 89, rural Granville passed away Monday, January 28, 2013 at her residence. Elizabeth Eleanor (Sucher) Immel was born June 18, 1923 to Howard and Lottie (Steele) Sucher. She married Harry Immel on September 8, 1946, in the United Church of Christ Church, Granville. She attended elementary schools and Hopkins Township High School. She also attended LaSalle Peru Junior College and graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in elementary education. She was a life member of the United Church of Christ (Congregational) Church. She was a member of the Womens Fellowship and was the church historian for many years. Betty was a life member of the Illinois Education Association and a member of the Marshall Putnam County Retired Teachers Association. Betty was a life member of the Putnam County Historical Society and served on the board of directors for 20 years. She was a 60 year member of the Eastern Star Peru Chapter. She was past member of La Salle County Home Extension and the Tonica Twentieth Century Club. Betty began her teaching career in a rural one room school (Hullinger) in Putnam County for three years. After her marriage she and her husband moved to a farm south of Cedar Point; she taught Physical Education at Tonica Elementary School for 17 years. Survivors include two sons, John Howard (Lora) Immel of Lostant, and William Harry (Kathy) Immel of Peru; one daughter, Carol Beth (Jerry) Patterson of Mascoutah; four grandchildren, Jaclyn Immel, Jonathan Immel, Justin Immel and Jodi Patterson; three step grandchildren, Brett, Brian, and Amy Burkiewicz and two step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Harry on July 24, 2007 and a step-great grandchild. Memorials can be directed to the United Church of Christ, the Putnam County Historical Society, or the donors choice. Pallbearers will be Jaclyn Immel, Jonathan Immel, Justin Immel, Jodi Patterson, Brian Burkiewicz and Larry Erjavsek.
Service/Memorial Information
Service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at United Church of Christ, Granville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2013 at Dysart - Cofoid Funeral Chapel, Granville. There will also be an additional visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at United Church of Christ, Granville.
