Elizabeth J. (Bette) McCabe, 87, of Hennepin, went to be with the Lord surrounded by her family on April 17, 2015. She was born on July 24, 1927 in Peoria to Dr. Edward W. and Ethelyn (Anderson) Newhaven. She married John E. McCabe on October 30, 1953 in Quincy, IL. John and Elizabeth had two children; Catherine L. (James) Phillips and Linda L. (Michael) Pinn both of Hennepin; three grandchildren, Amy J. (James) Carboni of Granville, Joleen A. Burton of Arlington, TN and Kristen E. Pinn of Hennepin and two great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant everything in the world to her. She also enjoyed spending as much time as she could with each one of them. For over 65 years she taught piano, organ, and vocal lessons, receiving her major in music from Bradley University, Chicago Conservatory, and the Carl Cravens Vocal Studios in Chicago. She was an organist for 50 years at various churches including St. Edwards (Chillicothe), Immaculate Conception (Ohio, IL) and St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Hennepin. She organized and directed "The Quarternotes", a ladies Barbershop Harmony singing group in Ohio, IL and Amboy, IL, and directed three Community Cantatas held at the United Methodist Church in Hennepin. She was past president and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary (Hennepin Post #1044) for 34 years, and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Hennepin. She is survived by two daughters, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, on May 19, 2008, a sister Mary Catherine shortly after birth, and her grandson-in-law, Ryan Burton July of 2014. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Hennepin United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be Kent Tomblin, Mark Judd, Terry Judd, Elizabeth Koester, Eugene Litherland and Aubrie Wall.
Service/Memorial Information
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church Hennepin. Fr. Patrick DeMeulemeester will officiate. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Hennepin. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2015 at Dysart - Cofoid Funeral Chapel, Granville with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will be an additional visitation on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
