Elizabeth Louise Campbell Obituary

Elizabeth Louise “Betty” (Mitchell) Campbell, formerly of Mt. Palatine, Illinois, died surrounded by her family, Friday, May 31, 2024, in Lady Lake, Florida, where she had resided for the past three years.  

Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was deeply loved by her many families and will be greatly missed. 

A funeral mass will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, June 12, at Sacred Heart Church in Granville, Illinois. Visitation will be at Dysart-Cofoid Funeral Home in Granville, on Tuesday, June 11, from 4-6 pm, followed by the recitation of the rosary. Additional visitation will be held from 9 to 10 am at the church prior to services on Wednesday. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mt. Palatine, Illinois, following the funeral service.  

Betty was born June 4, 1932, in Bradford, Illinois, to James Edmund and Agnes K. (Hardesty) Mitchell. She married Glen Roy Campbell in Bradford in 1951. They moved to the Mt. Palatine area in 1960 where they raised their nine children. 

Betty was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Mt. Palatine, where she served as treasurer of the Altar and Rosary Society and took care of the altar linens for many years. She was a former member of Edgewood Park Golf Club, Fish ’n’ Fun, and the McNabb Business and Betterment Association. 

Betty co-owned with her husband the Campbell Insurance Agency in McNabb from 1976 until they sold it to their sons, Ronald and David in 1994. She had served as vice president and president of Illinois Association of Mutual Insurance Companies Auxiliary. 

Survivors are her children: Kent (Cindy) Campbell of Cross Plains, Tennessee, Glenna (Jim) Jones of Brooksville, Florida, Theresa “Dawn” Johnson of The Villages, Florida, Constance (David) Wilcoxson of Peru, Illinois, Ronald (Kathy “Katie”) Campbell of Granville, Illinois, Anthony “Tony” (Brenda) Campbell of The Villages, Florida, and David (Deborah "Debby") Campbell of Mt. Palatine, Illinois; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren around the world. She is also survived by one sister, Regina Stephens of Chandler, Arizona. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen, in 2002; two sons, Kevin in 2021 and Douglas in 1987, one granddaughter, Elizabeth Louise Wilcoxson in 1988, six sisters and one brother. 

Memorials may be made to the Altar and Rosary Society at Sacred Heart Church in Granville or the Putnam County Achievement Services in Standard.
