- Esther B. Ploch, 98, of rural Peru died Sunday, May 11, 2014, in Manor Court of Liberty Village, Peru. She was born on May 26, 1915, in Putnam County to Emil and Anna (Immel) Zellmer. She married William G. Ploch on June 2, 1936, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was baptized and confirmed in Immanuel Church and was a lifelong member, having taught Sunday school for 50 years, served on the Church Council, sang in the choir, was an active leader and a member of the church women's organization. She worked as activity director at Heritage Manor in Peru for 20 years, also had past employment with Moews Seed Company and Tonica Greenhouse. She was past president of the Tonica 20th Century Club, a charter member of the National Farmers Organization and sang with the Hamonnaires for several years. Esther lived her entire life on the farm until moving to Liberty Village for healthcare. She is survived by one son, Roger (Carolynn) Ploch of rural Peru; one daughter, Anita (Ted) Timke of Granville; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 16, 2000; and two brothers, Walter and Clarence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church, County Line, Peru, or the ELCA World Hunger program, which she actively supported. Pallbearers will be Christopher Ploch, William Timke, Adam Conness, Tyler Johnson, Richard Ploch and Kenneth Zimmerman.
Service/Memorial Information
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, at Immanuel Lutheran Church on County Line with the Rev. Roger Helgren officiating. Burial will be in the Granville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at the Dysart-Cofoid Funeral Chapel in Granville.
