Gene “Butch” A. Mekley, of McNabb, Illinois passed away on June 9, 2021 at Heartland Healthcare Center, in Henry, Illinois.
He was born in McNabb, Illinois to John and Mayme (Harseim) Mekley on September 16, 1943. He graduated from John Swaney High School in the class of 1961. He married Darlene Nauman on June 10, 1967 in Henry. Butch was a farmer all of his life and was the Magnolia Township Road Commissioner from May 1989 through September 2008. His favorite winter sport was coyote hunting and in the summer he liked attending the fairs and his grandchildren’s activities.
Butch is survived by his wife, Darlene; daughters, Paula (Kim) Colburn of Katy, Texas and Darla (Mike) Eckert of Henry; son, Jeff Mekley of Henry; six grandchildren Bailey and Paige Mekley, Tanner, Kelsey and Trevor Davie and Rachel Eckert; brother, Elmer (Donna) Mekley; sister, Gladys (Jim) King and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son, Ricky on September 19, 2004; his parents; sisters, Nora Lee (Harold) Sipe, Irene (Marion) Kuhne and Dorothy (Jim) Johnson and one brother, John.
Butch’s last day at the Mekley farm, 10897 N. 600th Avenue, Granville, Illinois will be Sunday, June 13, 2021 where family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. Additional visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. at Dysart – Cofoid Funeral Chapel on June 14. A private service will be held at the funeral home with burial in the Magnolia Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mekley family for contributions to the Putnam County Community Center, the Heartland Healthcare Center and Marshall-Putnam Fair Association.
The pallbearers will be Kim Colburn, Mike Eckert, Tanner Davie, Trevor Davie, Jerry Mekley and Rick Munson.
