Harold R. (Mickey) Klein, 94 , formerly of Cherry died peacefully at the LaSalle Veteran’s Home on Monday, August 1, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Mickey was born on January 15, 1928 in Peterstown to William T. and Anna (Schneider) Klein. He was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Gillan on November 26, 1953. Shirley passed away on November 9, 2020 just weeks shy of their 67th wedding anniversary.
Mr. Klein was honorably discharged from the United States Army after serving during the Korean Conflict from 1953 thru 1955. He was a member of the Ladd American Legion, Knights of Columbus and the Cherry Booster Organization. Mickey farmed in the Troy Grove area and was a 50 year member of Carpenters Local 150. He established Klein Home Improvement working with his sons, Mike and Marty. He served the village of Cherry as a village trustee and mayor for over 25 years. Mickey was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church where he served as an usher. In his retirement, Mickey found enjoyment in helping others in his neighborhood.
Mr. Klein is survived by five children, Mike (Lynn) Klein of Cherry, Lori (Jack) Dippel of McNabb, Julie (Frank) Niewinski of Mark, Colleen (Ted) Kuziela of Naperville and Tracy (Jim) Gallagher of Bloomington. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Jennifer Rojas, Dawn Michel, Ryan Klein, Jessica Gensini, Kailey Klein, Taylor Niewinski, Brigitte Klein, Mickey Gallagher, Alex Niewinski, Cameron Koch, Sr. Mercy Marie Gallagher, Will Gallagher and Grace Gallagher. He is also survived by nine great grandchildren, Ethan and Evan Turner, Cadience and Addilyn Bickett, Reed and Rylan Rojas, Robert and Alexis Niewinski and Harper Koch. He is also survived by one sister, Bertha Sondgeroth of Mendota.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, his daughter, Renee McAllister and his son, Martin Klein. He was also preceded in death by his four sisters (Hilda Klein, Margaret Biers, Dorothy Weiman, Mary McCauley) and six brothers (Raymond, Gilbert, Edwin, Joseph, LeRoy and his twin Hilary).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 5, 2022 at Holy Trinity Church with Father Gregory Jarzombeck, OSB officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. with Rosary at 10:30 a.m. followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, Cherry. Burial will be in the Miner’s Memorial Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Ladd American Legion.
