Jeno Bonucchi, 94, a lifelong resident of Granville, died on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012 at Liberty Village Manor Court in Peru, Illinois. He was born on March 20, 1918 in Granville to Bartol and Luigia (Biolchini) Bonucchi. He graduated from Hopkins High School in 1936. He served in the US Army Air Corps in India during WWII as an Aircraft Electrician with the rank of Master Sergeant. He married Margaret Tulini on April 25, 1945. Together they owned and operated the Royal Blue Store in Granville for 40 years. Jeno was an active Volunteer to his community and his church. He has served as the President of the Granville Business Association, was a lifetime member of the VFW and Granville American Legion and served twice as the Post Commander of the Legion. He was the proud "Sausage Maker" for many community events. He was a charter member of the Granville Rotary and had perfect attendance for 44 years while serving as their Treasurer for over 20 years. He was a past President of the Putnam County Achievement Service. He served on the Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging and received their Ageless Achiever Award in 1983 for his volunteer accomplishments. He is a past president of the Holy Name Society and served as their treasurer for over 40 years. He was a trustee of the Sacred Heart Church for 35 years. He received the Pere Marquette Award in 2003 along with his wife, Margaret. He has served as treasurer for both the Putnam County Senior Citizens and the Putnam County Housing Authority. He was on the Board of Directors for the Granville Telephone Company from 1948 until 1965. Jeno is survived by his wife and twin daughters, Nancy (Jim) Carlson of Princeton and Carol (Ken) Unes of East Peoria as well as two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Albert and one sister, Alvira. Pallbearers will be, Adam Passini Jr., Bob Passini, Bob Peterson, Jim Carlson, Ken Unes and Phil Unes. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made for Masses, the Putnam County Achievement Service in Standard or to the donor's choice.
Service/Memorial Information
Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Granville at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 with Fr. Patrick DeMeulemeester officiating. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Granville with military honors. Visitation will be at Dysart - Cofoid Funeral Chapel, Granville on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m. with a rosary service at 7:45 p.m. Rotary to meet at 7 p.m. at the funeral Chapel.
