Joan Kunkel, July 19, 1934 – November 21, 2021, Granville, IL

Joan Kunkel, 87, of Granville passed away on November 21, 2021 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 noon on Friday, November 26, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on 311 Hennepin St in Granville, IL.  Fr. Patrick DeMeulemeester will officiate.  Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 26, 2021 at Dysart – Cofoid Funeral Chapel, Granville.

Joan was born July 19, 1934 in Ottawa, IL to Lucille and John O’ Neil.  She married Eugene Kunkel at St. Patrick’s Church in Ottawa, IL on August 7, 1954.  Together they created a beautiful family with a strong Catholic faith and values. 

Joan lived a fulfilling life as a wife, mother, grandma, sister, and friend.  She was a homemaker all her life, an active member of Sacred Heart and its Altar and Rosary Society.

Joan is survived by her husband, Eugene of Granville; 5 sons, Kevin (Becky) Kunkel of Granville, IL, Brian (Julie) Kunkel of Phoenix, AZ, Tim (Cheryl) Kunkel of Princeton, IL, Patrick (Grethel) Kunkel of Miami Lake, FL and Chad (Cheri) Kunkel of Batavia, IL; 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Jean Jagelski of Madison, WI. 

She was predeceased in death by her sisters, Marge Griglione and Marilyn Kuhn of Ottawa and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, her wish was that donations or memorials be made to donors’ choice.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her family. And her smile will continue to light our hearts!
