John O. Bima, 94, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022 at St. Margaret’s Hospital, Spring Valley.
Private Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Hennepin. Fr. Patrick DeMeulemeester will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Granville with full military honors.
Private Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Hennepin.
Dysart – Cofoid Funeral Chapel will be assisting the family with the arrangements.
John was born on December 6, 1927 in Florid to Barney and Mary (Vacca) Bima. He married Joan Edwards on July 19, 1952.
John graduated from Hopkins School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and received many medals. John was a self employed farmer and has farmed his whole life.
John was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Granville American Legion, VFW and was also Honor’s Flight Participant.
Survivors include, one son, Jack (Vicki) Bima of McNabb; three daughters, Marianne (Skip) Novak of Peru, Cindy (John) Mennie of Mark and Kathy (Jerry) Mekley of Hennepin; one sister, Kathryn Waldschmidt; 10 grandchildren, Christie (Dan) O’Niel, Nick (Maleaha) Novak, John A. “Butchie” Mennie, Jimmy Mennie, Jason Mennie, Jacob (Lindsay) Mennie, Mike Mekley, Jerad (Brittany) Mekley, Jaclyn (Jeremy) Beck and Jena (David John) Mennie. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren, Sydney Mennie, Mikey Mennie, Johnny Mennie, Jessa Jean Beck, Mia Mennie, Milly Mekley, Madalyn Mekley, Mae Mekley and Molly Mekley and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan; one brother, Barney Bima Jr. and one sister Emma Zielinski.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Beck, David John Mennie and Dan O’Neil.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to St. Jude Foundation.
