John Gehm Jr Obituary

John "Bud" Gehm Jr. of rural Granville passed away March 22, 2019 at Manor Court in Peru, just two weeks shy of his 100th birthday. John was born on April 7, 1919 on the family farm in Granville to John and Thekla (Dippel) Gehm. He was married to LaVina Pletsch from August 14, 1940 until her death on December 16, 1987. He married Norma Leverich, who survives him, on June 22, 1988. John was a lifelong farmer on the Gehm family farm north of Granville. He was also an avid Cubs fan, and a member of Immanuel Lutheran (County Line) Church, where he served on the church's council. He was also a lifetime member of Putnam County Historical Society. Survivors include three children, LaVerne (Barbara) Gehm of Huntsville, AL, Gerald (Dolores) Gehm of Granville and Roberta Henson of Peru; four grandchildren, Matthew (Vickie) Gehm of Mendota, Michael (Wendy) Gehm of Hillsborough, NC, Andrew (Jenna) Gehm of Granville and Shannon (John Woods) Henson of Brooklyn, NY; seven great-grandchildren, Jonathon, Payton, Amelia, Thomas, Vivian and Emma Gehm, and Theodore Woods; four stepchildren; six step grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Cyril and Ariel; his sisters Marceta and Margaret; two nieces and one nephew. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Putnam County Community Center. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Service/Memorial Information

The service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church (County Line). Pastor Karen Karczewski will officiate the service. The burial will be at Granville Cemetery. The visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., prior to the service at Immanuel Lutheran Church (County Line). Dysart - Cofoid is assisting the family with the arrangements.
