John Russell "Russ" Walton, 86, of Granville passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at OSF Medical Center, Peoria.
Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Dysart - Cofoid Funeral Chapel, Granville. Pastor Bob Kinas will officiate. Burial will be in Granville Cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Russ was born on July 26, 1935 in Clairton, PA to John R. and Elizabeth (Nagy) Walton Sr. He married Donna (Koch) Gusick on September 2, 1990 at the First Lutheran Church in Granville.
He graduated from Clairton High School in the class of 1953. He served in the United States Army (ham-radio operator) while he was stationed in Germany.
Russ was a steel worker and worked at US Steel Clairton Works from 1953 to 1958, United Airlines at Chicago O'Hare from 1962 to 1972 and LTV Steel in Hennepin from 1972 until his retirement in 2001.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Granville and served on the church council from 2000 to 2006 and he was head usher from 1991 to 2006. He and his wife Donna started the Food Share Program until her death and then Lisa Master helped with the program.
Russ and Donna were Stage 212 "Angels".
Survivors include two sons, Robert (Cyndi) Walton of Princeton and David (Gina) Walton of Granville; two daughters, Cindy (Denis) Uzella of Weyauwega, WI and Debra Jo Cullison (Kim Lucas) of Depue; one brother, Robert A. (Cindy) Walton of Belle Vernon, PA; 11 grandchildren, Kelly, Tracy, Missy, Ricky, Maegan, Nathan, Mandy, Rick, Matt, Jody and Lisa; 11 great-grandchildren and three step-children.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna and one son in infancy, Matthew Glenn.
