Kathy "Kat" Scheri Obituary

Kathy “Kat” (Szalek) Scheri, 68, of Longboat Key, Florida (formerly of Peru) passed away on July 27, 2024 at her residence in Florida.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Peru, IL.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. at the church.  Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Granville.  Cremation Rites have been accorded.

Dysart – Cofoid Funeral Chapel will be assisting the family with the arrangements.

Kathy was born on July 16, 1956 in Bloomington, to Roman and Helen (Baginski) Szalek.  She married Richard Scheri on October 12, 1985 in Peru.

She was a special education teacher at Bureau County Special Schools until she retired.

She graduated from LaSalle-Peru High School class of 74.  She studied at St. Francis College and received her Masters at St. Xavier University.

Kathy was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Peru and St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church in Longboat Key, Florida.

Survivors include her sister, Cynthia Haines; grandchildren, Shay, Jack, Joe, Grace, Henry and Kendall Scheri and Claire and Luke Poulaki.  Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Roman Szalek and her husband Richard Scheri.

Memorials may be made to the National MS Society.
