Lloyd Schrowang Obituary

Lloyd F. “Smiley” Schrowang, 89, of rural Granville, IL passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2025.  He was born on March 1, 1936 in Peru to August and Christine (Wege) Schrowang.  Lloyd graduated from Hopkins Twp. High School in Granville, IL in 1954, Loretta was his classmate.  He served in the Army from April 1955-1957 at Ft. Leonard Wood Missouri.

Lloyd and Loretta Jean Zimmerman were married on June 21, 1958 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church (County Line) rural Peru, IL, they resided on the Schrowang family farm, in Granville, IL where Lloyd built a hog confinement operation and raised soybeans and corn, retiring in 2008 and Gregg and Gene took over the operation..

After discontinuing the hog operation Lloyd remodeled the barn to a workshop and began collecting and restoring over 40 International Harvester tractors and equipment.  He then started a collection of IH toys. He is a NRA member and gun collector also.

Lloyd is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Peru, IL, he was a board member, and on the Building and Grounds Committee, he served as president of the Standard Elevator Board, Secretary of the International Harvesters Club Chapter 10 of Penfield, IL and a member of Putnam County Historical Society in Hennepin, IL.

Lloyd enjoyed reading, watching TV, snowmobiling, in Wisconsin, spending time with family and friends.  He and Loretta traveled extensively through out the United States and special trips to Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Austria.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Loretta, two sons, Gregg (Julie) Schrowang of Peru, IL and Gene (Shelia) Schrowang of Henry, IL: six grandchildren, Bradley Schrowang of Beloit, Wisconsin, Lauren (Will) Farrell of Elmhurst, IL, Christina (Nathan) Fetzer of Sheffield, IL, Kimber Schrowang of Champaign, IL, Brian Schrowang of Tonica, IL, Michael Schrowang and Grace Ebel of rural Oglesby, IL; three great- grandsons, Aiden, Lucas and Silas Fetzer;  one brother, Edward (Nancy) Schrowang of Mt Vernon, Washington; two sisters, Elinor Vaughn of Peru, IL and Ilene Shaw of Dalzell, IL, and numerous nieces and nephews; two brothers-in-law, Larry Zimmerman of Earlville, IL and Gary (Sue) Trembly of Crystal Lake, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Christine Schrowang; two brothers, Howard Schrowang, and Elmer Schrownag; brothers–in-law, James Vaughn and William Shaw; sisters-in-law, Lois Schrowang, Mary Schrowang and Diane Trembly; father-in-law, Albert Zimmerman and mother-in-law, Edna Zimmerman.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at St. John’s Lutheran Church 2000 Luther Dr. Peru, IL.

Service will be at 11:30 a.m. following the visitation at the church.  Pastor Tom Redig will officiate.  Burial will be in Granville Cemetery with military honors.

In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the donor’s choice.
