Melvin "Sonny" R. Besola

Melvin "Sonny" R. Besola, 87 of Spring Valley, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2012 at St. Margaret's Hospital in Spring Valley. He was born on August 17, 1925 in Ishpeming, Mich. to Reino and Selma Besola. He married Irma Jurmu on September 1, 1956 in Negaunee, Michigan. He graduated from Ishpeming High School and attended Northern Michigan University for two years. He was in the United States Navy and served on the USS Albemarle during WWII. He was a member of the VFW in Ishpeming, Mich. He was an industrial engineer snd was employed by CCI in Mich. He also worked for LTV Steel for over ten years. Survivors are his wife, Irma of Spring Valley; one son, Scott (Rachael) Besola of Spring Valley; one daughter, Kathie (Jeff) Lahde of Appleton, Wisc.; two brothers, Alan (Barb) Besola of Ishpeming, Mich. and Lee (Gail) Besola of Ishpeming, Mich.; two sisters, Betty (Stan) Uitto of Ishpeming, Mich. and Jeanie (Eugene) Bilkey of Ishpeming, Mich.; four grandchildren, Ashley Lahde, Samatha Lahde, Riley Besola and Danielle Heess and seven great-grandchildren, Elijah, Ethan, Mauri, Avi, Judson, Rylee and Jaiden. He was preceded in death by his parents. Contributions may be directed to the Humane Society of Illinois Valley, Emmaus Lutheran Church, or Bay Cliff Health Camp in Big Bay, Mich.

Service/Memorial Information

Cremation rites have been accorded. Dysart - Cofoid Funeral Chapel will be assisting the family and there will be a service at a later date in Michigan.
