Ruth M. Gehm. 105, of Peru (formerly of Rural Peru) passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Manor Court, Peru.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024 at Dysart – Cofoid Funeral Chapel 208 S McCoy St. Granville.
Service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024 at the funeral home. Kent Terry and Dave Kromphordt will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will be in Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, Spring Valley.
Ruth was born on August 13, 1919 in Granville Township to Harry J. and Ida (Schrowang) Immel. She married Ariel Wilhelm Gehm on March 24, 1945 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Ruth graduated from Hopkins High School. She also went to LPO College for two years. Ruth was the bookkeeper for the McNabb Hatchery when it began. She also worked at Montgomery Wards and Bruce Ace Hardware and Debo’s Hardware Store in Peru and she retired from there.
She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church (County Line) and was Secretary for the church, she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. Ruth helped with the farming and was a 4-H leader. She was also involved with the Home Economic Extension.
She loved to do tole painting. Ruth and her sister played instruments for the WLS “Barn Dance” program in Chicago. She played the organ, piano and the guitar. Ruth enjoyed card club with neighbors and wintered in Arizona for 17 years. She also loved to go fishing “fly fishing”.
Survivors include one son, Keith (Rita) Gehm of Oglesby and one daughter Sharon Taylor. Also surviving are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ariel Gehm on October 15, 2002; one brother, Harry and one sister, Viola.
