Verna Lee Reed

Verna Lee Reed, age 87, of Naples, Florida (formerly of McNabb) passed away Monday, August 16th in Naples, Florida surrounded by her family.

She was born on January 8, 1934 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to George and Leta  Carnahan.  She married Donald Reed on May 29, 1955 in Topeka, Kansas.

Mrs. Reed was a retired Putnam County School Teacher.  She taught from 1955 until her retirement in 1994.

Verna loved sewing, quilting and gardening.   Her Rose garden was her pride and joy.  She was also an avid golfer and a member of the Edgewood Park Country Club Ladies League in McNabb.   In her retirement, she and husband Don golfed and traveled extensively across the United States and Canada.

Mrs. Reed was the former McNabb Librarian.   She was a volunteer for the Putnam County Historical Society and the PEO.   Verna played bridge regularly for more than 40 years with a dear and beloved group of friends.

Verna Reed is survived by her husband; Don Reed of Naples, Florida; two sons, Stan (Kim) Reed of Naples, Florida and David (Michelle) Reed of Utica, Illinois; one daughter Diana Reed of Miami, Florida and one sister, Marilyn Heath of Kearney, Missouri.  She was the loving grandmother of Vince, Miranda, Ashley, Cheryl, Jarrett and Abby.  She had four great grandchildren.   

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at the McNabb Methodist Church, McNabb.  Rev. Mark Nowakowski will officiate.  Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, McNabb.  Dysart - Cofoid Funeral Chapel of Granville, IL will be assisting the family with the arrangements.
